The Vision of the Tree of Life, or Lehi's Dream as it is sometimes called, was a dream/vision had by the prophet Lehi in the Book of Mormon. The dream encompasses the whole of the eighth chapter of the First Book of Nephi, and is then added upon in later chapters when Lehi's son, Nephi, has a similar vision, which he records in greater detail. The main content of Lehi's dream/vision is that there is a large tree (the Tree of Life) in the middle of a vast field with a rod of iron leading the way to it. Lehi makes his way to the Tree of Life and then beckons his family to join him. Lehi's wife and two of his sons, Nephi and Sam, join him at the Tree of Life, while two of his other sons, Laman and Lemuel, do not, choosing instead to go towards what Lehi describes as the Great and Spacious Building. The dream/vision concludes with Lehi describing the various groups of people that are involved, specifically those that make it to the Tree of Life and stay, those that make it to the Tree of Life and then depart, those who lose their way to the Tree of Life by no following the Rod of Iron, and those that never enter the path leading to the Tree of Life.
